Patients Sample Collection: Stool

Patient Stool Analysis Collection Procedure

It is recommended that patients refrain from taking antibiotics for 28 days prior to stool sample collection or as directed by your healthcare provider.

Please check to make sure that you received all supplies necessary to successfully collect your stool sample.
If you did not receive all of the supplies (listed below) from your physician or have any questions regarding the
collection of your stool sample, please call our customer service department at 844-725-8365.

Kit Components:
A – 2 Foam ice packs
B – Foam cooler
C – Corrugated shipping box
D – C & S Collection Container
E – Clear plastic biohazard bag containing absorbent strip
F – Clear sterile container with collection spoon
G – Golves
H – Paper toilet collection device
I – FedEx Return Label
J – Requisition

Stool Collection Preparation:

Please read all of the instructions below before attempting to collect your stool sample. Failure to adhere to the
collection process may result in your sample being rejected upon receipt at Salveo Diagnostics. Please call 844-
725-8365 if you have any questions prior to collection.
  1.  You will be required to ship your sample with frozen foam ice packs, so you will need to place the foam ice
    packs in a freezer prior to collecting your sample. Leave the foam ice packs in the freezer until you are
    ready to ship your sample to Salveo Diagnostics.
  2. Once stool sample is collected; you are required to ship the sample to Salveo Diagnostics within 24 hours.

Stool Collection Process:

Step 1:
If necessary, empty bladder prior to passing your stool. Urine must not come into contact with the stool sample as it will affect the integrity of the sample.

toiletStep 2:
Attach the foldable paper collection device to the toilet. Instructions for proper adherence can be found directly on the collection device. Please read these instructions as it will make the collection process a lot easier.

Step 3:
Pass your stool into the collection device adhered to the toilet. Make sure that the stool sample does not come into contact with water from the toilet as it will affect the integrity of the sample.

poopStep 4a: CLEAR STERILE CONTAINER
Using gloved hands and the collection spoon from the collection container top, pick up protions of the stool sample and place them in the clear sterile container. The container needs to be filled to the 20mL line. Please do not overfill container.  Recap the container to ensure it is securely fastened.  Please listen for the top to snap shut.

Step 4b: C&S Collection Container
Remove the cap from the Para-Pak C&S collection vial.  Using gloved hands and the collection spoon from the container top, pick up mutiple protions (roughly 4 scoops) from different areas of the sample, and place into the Para-Pak C&S collection vial until the liquid has reached the ‘fill line’ on the vial.  Please do not overfill container.

Step 4c:
Recap the container to ensure it is securely fastened.  Shake the vial for approximately 30 seconds.

Step 5: FOR BOTH CONTAINERS
Fill out the identificaton labels on both sample containers with you name, date of birth, and collection date/time.  One the C&S tube itdentify the specime consistency that correlates best with your sample by checking the appropriate box.  The test cannot be performed without patient information on the containers.

Packaging and Shipping of Sample:

Step 1:
Once all necessary stool samples have been collected you may remove the stool sample for the stool analysis from the refrigerator and the fully frozen  foam ice packs from the freezer.

Place completed requisition in the rear pouch of the biohazard bag.

Step 3:
Place both collection containers into the biohazard bag.  Make sure the patient name, date of birth, collection date and time are on the collection containers.  Place one of the frozen ice packs at the bottom of the insulated cooler and the second ice packs on the top making sure that the biohazard bag is in between the two ice packs.

Step 4:
Place one of the frozen ice packs at the bottom of the insulated cooler and the second ice packs on the top making sure that the biohazard bag is in between the two ice packs.

Step 5:
Place the cooler in the corrugated box provided and tape shut the box.

Step 6:
Place the preprinted FedEx

Step 7:
Call 1-800 GoFedEx to schedule a pick up within 24 hours of final collection.
